Smooth Traffic - Dhami government is developing parking capacity of 15 thousand vehicles
Vehicle parking is being built at 182 places through development authorities
MDDA is building parking for two thousand vehicles in Rishikesh and Dehradun
There is movement of tourists and pilgrims throughout the year in Uttarakhand. In such a situation, to deal with the problem of traffic jam, the state government is constructing parking spaces at major pilgrimage sites, cities and tourist places along with road widening. At present, parking facility for more than 15 thousand vehicles is being prepared at 182 places through various development authorities. Out of which parking spaces have been prepared at 34 places. MDDA is building parking for two thousand vehicles in Rishikesh and Dehradun.
In recent times, road connectivity has been strengthened through the PMGSY network in Uttarakhand with the upgradation of All Weather Road, Expressway and State Highway into National Highway. Its effect is visible in the form of record crowd during the Chardham Yatra as well as the tourist season. But with this, the problem of traffic jam has started appearing from major cities to tourist places. To solve this problem, Uttarakhand Housing and Urban Development Authority (UDA) is preparing parking facilities of total 15857 vehicle capacity at 182 sites on a war footing through various development authorities. In this, parking facility for 2102 vehicles has been provided by preparing 34 sites till date. While construction work has also started on 47 others. Action on the remaining is going on at various levels.
Tunnel parking for the first time
Due to the mountainous terrain, there is a shortage of space for ground floor and multi-story parking in Uttarakhand. Therefore, for the first time, the state government is going to try the option of tunnel parking. In this, parking facility will be developed by making tunnels inside the mountain. For this, tunnel parking is being prepared at Bageshwar, Laxmanjhula, Ukhimath, Kempty Falls, Nainbag, Tapovan, Uttarkashi, Yamunotri Marg (Uttarkashi), Nainital (at two places). According to Dr. R Meenakshi Sundaram, Chief Administrator of Uttarakhand Housing and Urban Development Authority (Udai), tunnel parking can prove to be a milestone for Uttarakhand.

Parking is being constructed at major stops so that the precious time of pilgrims and tourists coming to Uttarakhand is not wasted in traffic jams.
